The Insane Amount of THC Allowed Under Oklahoma Law

I recently accompanied Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Director Donnie Anderson to Mississippi to give a presentation to law enforcement regarding the disasters of marijuana legalization.  On the plane, I did some math which alarmed me – and I have thought about this quite a bit over the last several years.  Here goes:

1.   Under Oklahoma law, a person can possess an ounce of concentrated THC.

2.   THC, in its medicinal form, is produced in a medication known as Marinol.

3.   A Marinol tablet is 2.5 milligrams.  The recommended dosage of Marinol (as an appetite stimulant) is 2 tablets a day.

4.   One ounce is 28.35 grams, which equals 28,350 milligrams.

5.   Once ounce of THC equals 11,340 Marinol tablets.

6.   11,340 Marinol tablets is a 189 month supply at the medicinal level.

7.   189 months equals 15 years and 9 months.

8.   Therefore, a medical marijuana card in Oklahoma allows the user to possess the THC equivalent of a 15 year, 9 month supply of the scientifically approved dosage.

This does not include the over half pound of flower marijuana and near 5 pounds of edibles  (which could 100 milligram gummies).

Put another way, this personal use medical paradigm allows someone to obtain enough THC which should medically last until well into the year 2036.  If the user consumed 15 times the medically recommended intake of THC each and every day, the user would still have THC left over a year later.  How many canaries in the coal mine do we need to see before we are aware of what we are doing to our society, our children, and our future?
